Resuming from two-month holiday, lakhs of students in the Krishna district went back to schools on Monday. With parents accompanying their wards to schools, city roads witnessed traffic jams in the morning. There are nearly 4, 400 schools including 1, 700 private schools and about 5.5 lakh students.

Progressive Democratic Students’ Union activists staged protests at a Sri Chaitanya School demanding that the government close the school as it was unrecognised. PDSU state president A. Ravichandra alleged that the Education Department officials are only issue notices and collecting fine from the violating school managements. “They should immediately seize such schools instead of making money by imposing hefty fines. Only schools that do not have proper facilities fail to get recognition,” he said.

Education Department officials reportedly issued notice to a school in district which opened without acquiring proper permissions. Meanwhile, the Transport Department authorities continued checks on school buses and seized one bus for not producing required documents.

According to information, there are as many as 2,329 school and college buses in district and 1,673 out of them have been checked for fitness by the road transport authorities. Attempts to reach out to the district Education Department officials for further information turned futile. It is learnt that the department would take ‘Badi Pilustundi’ campaign from June 15 to attract dropouts in the district to schools.
