The task force appointed by the State Government to inquire into the alleged irregularities in the execution of the Krishna Delta Modernisation Works has begun its work here on Tuesday.
Chief Engineer for Reservoir Status Information System and Lift Irrigation Hari Ram Bhookya who is heading the task force, arrived in the city on Tuesday morning. A couple of his sub-ordinates were in the city on Monday itself. They went to the Irrigation Department and seized all the relevant files for Mr. Hari Ram.
The Chief Engineer went and made a field visit to the Krishna Eastern Bank (KEB) Canal. It was the contractors that were executing a package on KEB canal that was the butt of allegations. The State Government initially ordered a high-level inquiry into the allegations against the contractor of KEB canal but extended the inquiry to all the works in progress on second thought.
Mr. Hari Ram will spend three days in the Model (Irrigation) Guest House studying the records and making field visits to check the designs and the quality of the works being executed by the different contractors. He will then submit a report to the government.
