The Krishna district branch of Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP) plans to take up a series of awareness programmes to mark ‘Teenage Day’ and Breastfeeding Week on August 1.
“In keeping with the theme of “We Are the Masters of Fate” given by the national IAP, we will take up a series of activities across Krishna district to mark the significance of Teenage Day,” Madhavi Majety, secretary of the Academy told a press conference.
The Academy members would conduct health awareness meetings for teenagers in various paediatric hospitals and organise counselling sessions in schools and colleges. Teenage Day would also be celebrated at St. Ann’s Hospital.
Distribution of pamphlets, talk shows on radio and TV would be a part of the programme. Siddhartha Medical College, Pinnamaneni Siddhartha Medical College and NRI Medical College would be the venues for programme.
Students of Sri Durga Malleswara Siddhartha Mahila Kalasal and KBN College would attend counselling sessions followed by an elocution competition. Health check-ups, screening of school children for obesity, diabetes and hyper tension at S.K.P.V.V. Hindu High School, Sri Telaprolu Raja High School, NSM Public School and KCP Siddhartha Public School will take place.
Members of MAD (Make A Difference) a youth organisation, would conduct “Youth for Youth”, a counselling session for the youth by the youth. A video conference by a team of doctors with students of Nirmala High School, Machilipatnam on August 2, followed by an innovative campaign using a tricycle, a Rath Yatra, carrying thought-provoking slogans on health awareness, would mark the culmination of the Teenage Day.
As part of the Breast Feeding Week from August 1 to August 7, the Academy members would conduct counselling sessions for nursing mothers at Government Maternity Hospital, Amma Hospital, Aravinda Hospital, Sreeram Hospital, Vennela Hospital and RVR Hospital.
Counselling for nursing students would be held at Dr. Samaram Hospital, Usha School of Nursing, Vijaya School of Nursing and Nagarjuna Hospital.
Breast feeding camps at Siddhartha Medical College, Pinnamaneni Siddhartha Medical College and NRI Medical College, talk shows on radio and TV, awareness camps for staff nurses in various maternity hospitals, collection of statistical data of the status of breast feeding mothers in Krishna district, a rally from IMA hall to the Sub-Collector’s office and a tricycle ‘Rath Yatra’ to spread awareness on the significance of breast feeding would mark the week-long drive.
