Amidst power cuts and confusion over the location of examination centres at various places in the city, about 56,000 students appeared for the first year Intermediate Public Examination that commenced on Wednesday. Though the examination was scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., the students were asked to be present in the hall at least 30 minutes in advance. With the Discom authorities shutting down power supply from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. across the city, students who were given government colleges and aided colleges as examination centres suffered a lot. Darkness prevailed in the examination halls of such colleges, as there was no provision of standby power.

Finding the examination centre posed another challenge for some students, as some corporate colleges have branches close to each other with the same name and address. No case of malpractice was booked on the first day of the examinations. The officials said that as many as 2,726 students did not turn up.
