Allam Appa Rao, Vice-Chancellor, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada, has underscored the need for more partnerships between professional colleges and the industry, so that it would help increase the employability of students. He wanted the college managements to give priority to this interaction to address the high rate of ‘unemployability'.
Addressing a meeting held at SRK Institute of Technology (SRKIT) in Enikepadu here, Prof. Appa Rao complimented the SRK Foundation for bringing in HCL Technologies to open HCL K2 Academy on their campus for the benefit of their engineering students. He said there was no dearth of job opportunities for the students who could work hard from the beginning and acquire necessary industry-relevant skills.
During the visit of Prof. Appa Rao, the SRK Foundation finalised its partnership with HCL Technologies to extend training to the students of SRK Institute of Technology and Vijaya Institute of Technology for Women, both run by the foundation at Enikepadu.
Earlier, addressing a press conference, SRK Foundation chairman B.S. Appa Rao said that the partnership with the HCL was aimed at creating an industry-ready skilled workforce in the next generation of IT professionals by imparting latest technologies being adopted by the industry. He called upon the students to make good use of the HCL K2 Academy and enjoy the benefits in their future careers.
New initiative
Explaining about the new initiative, Mr. Appa Rao said, “This training with the help of HCL will include not just language and soft skills but also appropriate individual behaviours suitable for corporate companies. HCL will also train students in latest technologies necessary to make them readily employable.”
Dipankar Sarkar, national programme manager, institution alliance division, HCL, outlined the features of the HCL K2 academy set up at the SRK Foundation. He said that low employability among students was because of lack of exposure to and training in leading technologies. This would be bridged at the K2 Academy, which would offer quality training programmes in software, hardware, networking and also global certifications.
