Industrialists and workers take out a rally in Vijayawada on Thursday.

Industrialists and workers took out a rally from Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium Complex to SPDCL SE office opposing the power cut and power holiday being imposed on industry, in the city on Thursday.

The rally passed through PWD Grounds, Collector's camp office, State Guest House and culminated as a sit in protest infront of SE office. Later, they submitted a memorandum to SPDCL SE Mohan Krishna urging him to take necessary action to lift the power holiday. CPI(M) city unit extended its support to the agitation.

On the occasion, the speakers rued that the production and employability was steeply sliding due to power holidays. The industry was caught in a catch-22 situation. It, now, neither can downsize the workforce nor pay salaries. The skilled labour looks for alternative employment if salaries were not paid on the plea of power holiday. The competition from neighbouring states upped the ante, they said.
