Impostor held

The police arrested an impostor, Vangani Ravi Kumar (24), on charges of posing as a sub-inspector of police and extorting money from shop-keepers in Mydukur and remanded him to judicial custody.

Ravi Kumar, belonging to Chagalamarri in Kurnool district, showed fake documents and claimed to be a police official, Mydukur Circle Inspector Venkata Siva Reddy told newsmen at Mydukur on Thursday.

Ravi Kumar was nabbed after a shop owner at Mydukur suspected his credentials and complained to police that he demanded a Reliance SIM card and Rs. 2,000 claiming that he was Mydukur SI.

The accused allegedly issued several fake bus passes by using a fictitious seal in the name of APSRTC Regional Manager, the CI said. A fake seal for getting railway reservations was also seized from him. Earlier a case was registered against him Chagalamarri police station in 2012.
