IIIT students raring to go for NASA contest

Of them, Jhansi, is a native of Penumaka village of Tadepalli mandal. The contest is part of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) 33rd International Space Development Conference (ISDC 2014).

Dressed in shining blazers, the girls looked pretty and confident. Kokkilagadda Jhansi, Manasa, Kinnera and Ruksana, students of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT), APIIT, Nuzivid, have just been presented with blazers by Sadiq, managing partner of M&M Showroom, at a programme organised by the Space Club of the Vijaya Educational Society.

“It is a token of our appreciation for what the students achieved in a global competition. We want the students to feel happy and confident in their blazers,” said Mr. Sadiq.

At a time when India has emerged as a global leader in space technology, these four students from the IIIT, Nuzivid, have done their parents and the school proud after being selected to attend the 33rd International Space Development Conference (ISDC 2014) at Los Angeles in USA. The conference is part of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) 33rd International Space Development Conference (ISDC 2014).

Of them, Jhansi, is a native of Penumaka village of Tadepalli mandal. A first year student of B.Tech at IIIT, she had won the International Space Settlement Design Contest conducted by the NASA and the NSS. Coming from a low-income family, Jhansi needs financial support for her travel to USA.

P. Shantha Murthy, Space Club president, said satellite communication, powered by space technology, has revolutionised communication technology. India space research programme has successfully completed 100 projects.

Retired general manager of Indian Bank, Somayajulu, Mentor at IIIT, Saleem and popular singer Gani were present.
