Varsity director calls for more awareness on its academic programmes

The scale of awareness among student community must be raised with regard to enormous benefits of the several academic programmes introduced by the Indira Gandhi National Open University, through the Regional Centre, said its regional director V. Girija Devi.

Addressing a media conference here on Wednesday at the university’s Regional Centre set up on the campus of SKPVV Hindu High School, Dr. Girija Devi said besides regular courses in Bachelor and Masters’ degrees, the IGNOU had come up with a range of fresh and innovative academic programmes that had a vast employment scope.

Admissions are open till July 31 without payment of late fee, while with a late fee of Rs. 200, the last date is August 14. The other IGNOU programmes in demand include B.Com (A&F) – Bachelor of Commerce in Accountancy and Finance. The university offers a unique B.Com degree course in association with Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. An intermediate candidate, after passing CPT and registering with the IPCC, can enrol in B.Com in the university and complete it in just one year and walk out with a B.Com degree along with the articleship of ICAI.

Bachelor Preparatory Programme (BPP) has been introduced keeping in view school dropouts who can complete this course in a short span of six months and get admission in BA/B.Com degree directly. Likewise, Diploma in Dairy Technology (DDT) is aimed at attracting rural youth by offering a diploma (one-year) in dairy technology with 50 per cent concession.

“Foundation Course on Education of Children with Disabilities is a special education programme designed for teachers to develop basic understanding for dealing with the challenged children, she said. Any in-service teacher can apply for this three-month-long course by paying a fee of Rs. 2,000. Employment opportunities are vast for this course in Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA).
