Three children clear city round of Iken Scientifica
While only one student from Level 1 (Classes 4 and 5) was selected to go to Mumbai, two students from Level 2 (Classes 6 and 7) have made it to the next level in the ‘Free trip to NASA' contest.
V.R. Siddhartha Public School student K. Kusal Anurag is the only one to win in the first level of the Iken Scientifica city round held here on Sunday. N.S.M. Public School student Savio Jomton and Delhi Public School student B. Ram Sampreth cleared the city round and will go to Mumbai. Over 600 students from classes 4 to 9 competed in the city round of the Iken Scientifica Free Trip to NASA competition at the IMA Hall here. The children who were provided special kits and problem statements prepared models of a car and sewing machine.
Vaishnavi studying 7th class in Akshara International School said participating in the contest had given her a lot of confidence and she was going to make a career out of science and become a doctor.
“I am sure this will help me be a better student of science,” she said. Her brother Vaibhav, studying in 6th standard in the same school, got through the first round with his sister. “I too will study science and become a software engineer,” he said.
Though the siblings did not get through the city round, they did not seem crestfallen in anyway. Second round coordinator A. Krishna said, in all, three lakh students of 2,500 schools from three countries participated in the Iken Scientifica contest this year.
The scale of the competition has been broadened this year with students from 4 to 9 standards participating in it. An international round has been introduced this year with students from 15 countries participating in the final round to be held abroad.
