IGMC stadium to host R-Day celebrations

The Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium has been selected as the venue for the first Republic Day celebrations in the State post-bifurcation.

Chief Secretary (CS) I.Y.R. Krishna Rao and Director General of Police (DGP) J.V. Ramudu on Tuesday inspected several colleges and other places to find the suitable venue for the Republic Day celebrations, before zeroing in on the stadium.

The CS and DGP, along with Krishna district In-charge Collector J. Murali, City Police Commissioner A.B. Venkateswara Rao, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Commissioner C. Hari Kiran and other officials made a whirlwind tour in the city. They inspected open grounds at Siddhartha Medical College, V.R. Siddhartha College and Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) and discussed with the officials about the arrangements for the Republic Day celebrations, which is likely to be attended by Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan.

Mr. Rao and Mr. Ramudu discussed issued pertaining to invited dignitaries, parking of vehicles and security for the programme. They would brief the Chief Minister about the arrangements during the day-long Collectors’ conference slated for Wednesday. Later, Mr. Ramudu reviewed the security arrangements with Mr. Venkateswara Rao.
