Software major IBM has opened a centre of excellence on Vignan University campus.

The university was selected for setting up the centre after it came first among the top 50 colleges across the country at The Great Mind Challenge (TGMC), a software development competition, hosted by IBM.

As many as 90 teams from the Computer Science Engineering (CSE) department at Vignan University took part in the competition.

N. Gnaneswara Rao, head of the department, CSE, received the award of excellence from Karthik Padmanabhan, IBM country head, at a meeting held at CMR Institute of Technology, Bangalore recently.

TGMC encourages engineering students to develop solutions to real-time problems using IBM’s open source software. It also aims at motivating students to develop applications for cutting-edge IBM technologies while providing them the opportunity to improve their software-writing skills.
