Hues of ‘Vasanthotsav 2013’ at youth festival

Jignasa Foundation, a student organisation, will unleash Vasanthotsav 2013, a youth festival for engineering colleges in Krishna and Guntur districts.

The razzle-dazzle of Vasanthotsav will unfold on Saturday and Sunday (March 16 and 17) at Siddhartha Institute of Hotel Management in the city, the venue of the extravaganza.

“The two-day programme comprises 50-odd events including workshops, guest lectures and cultural programmes. The entire carnival will revolve around a theme of ‘Incredible India’,” said incharge of the events K. Nageswara Rao.

Students from engineering, professional and degree colleges will participate. ‘Bharatiya Grameena Vasantham’ highlighting various village sports such as goli aata (marbles) and tug of war would be special attractions, he said.

“Huge posters and hoardings showcasing the rich art and culture of the region would dot the vicinity of the venue. Heritage sites like the ancient caves at Undavalli and Mogulrajpuram, the Nagarjuna hill and the Buddhist sites at Amaravathi and famous temples like the Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple at Mangalagiri, Kanaka Durga temple atop Indrakeeladri hill and the Chebrolu temple would occupy centres stage on the hoardings,” said the programme coordinator Y. Tulasiram.

To help students hone their academic skills, experts from software industry based at Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Gujarat, Mumbai and Chennai would descend on the venue to share their knowledge and experiences.

The cultural bonanza will include ‘Nritya Vasantham’ – western, classical and folk dance competitions, ‘Raga Vasantham – vocal and instrumental music contests, ‘Abhinaya Vasantham’ – Mimicry, skit, streetplay, mime and mono action, ‘Sankethika Vasantham’—competitions in paper and poster presentation and ‘Sahiti Vasantham’—quiz, debate, elocution and mock press.

Under ‘Vasantha Vishesha’ participants will vie for titles of ‘Mr. and Miss. Vasanthotsav’ besides conduct of an exciting game ‘Vasantha Nidhi’ (Treasure Hunt) and crowning of the Mr. and Miss Fresh Face of Andhra Pradesh.

The event is being put together by student volunteers from K.L. University, Vignan University, V.R. Siddhartha, PVP Siddhartha, MIC Engineering College, Vignan’s LARA, KHIT, SRKIT, VVIT, Vignan’s NIRULA, Nalanda College, Priyadarshini College, Nova College, Amrita Sai College, Universal College, Mallineni Lakshmaiah College and PNR and Vijay colleges.
