With the Telangana government taking up a comprehensive household survey on Tuesday, Telanganites, who are staying in Andhra Pradesh travelled to their native districts on Monday to submit their details during the exercise.
Employees working in various government departments and private organisations made arrangements to reach their native places by Tuesday morning. As Vijayawada is hub for transportation, Telanganites residing in Nellore, Prakasham, Guntur, Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari and other districts reached Vijayawada on Monday.
“As the Telangana government announced the schedule for survey well in advance, we reserved tickets to reach our native places. Though I am working in Andhra Pradesh, my family is staying in Telangana and my children are studying in Hyderabad. I am attending for the survey voluntarily,” said a government officer.
Holidays rush “With a string of vacations --Independence Day, Sunday and Krishnastami--, there was a heavy rush. Reservations for buses destined to Khammam, Nalgonda, Warangal, Karimnagar, Adilabad and Hyderabad and Hyderabad and New Delhi-bound trains via. Telangana districts are in great demand. Expecting the rush, some people reached their destinations in advance,” said D. Pavan Kumar, a private employee from Hanmakonda in Warangal district.
Special buses Railway and bus stations teemed with passengers as many people returning to Hyderabad and other places, after a long weekend. In a bid to avoid inconvenience to passengers, the APSRTC authorities operated more than 150 special buses on Sunday, in addition to the 200 regular services that are operated to Hyderabad from Vijayawada.
On Monday too, 50 special buses were operated from the city and authorities claimed that there was good seat occupancy in the buses.
Railway authorities also informed that most trains, including several special trains that were being operated this season were packed to the brim.
