Health assistants on Thursday staged a protest in the city under the banner of the Andhra Pradesh Multi Purpose Health Assistants and Health Supervisors (Male) Association seeking a solution to their problems.

A procession was taken out from the government hospital to the Collectorate and a petition was submitted to Collector A..Vani Prasad with a wish list.

The protesters demanded regularisation of the services of the male health assistants who have been working on a contract basis for the last seven years. The association recalled the services rendered by the male health assistants in implementation of various health programmes and welfare schemes initiated by the government like Arogyasri while requesting the government to reward their services by regularising them. The association registered its strong protest against the recruitment of employees in the Medical and Health Department on the basis of outsourcing and contract system. Instead, the recruitment should be made on a permanent basis, it demanded.
