The MP to join the agitation if the demand is not conceded
Lagadapati Rajagopal, MP, has asserted that a Bench of the High Court would definitely be set up in the coastal districts “at a place acceptable to all”. He also said emphatically that the Bench would be set up only after December 31, though no time frame could be mentioned now.
Responding to questions from newspersons during his Bapuji Sadbhavana Yatra at Mallikarjunapeta in 25th division on Monday, Mr. Rajagopal said that he too would join the agitation for the Bench if it was not likely to be conceded after December 31. Asked why the Government was unable to state this, the MP explained that the Ministers and the officials were bound to work under certain limitations. If they stated this position categorically, the forces fighting for separate state could take advantage of it and create animosities among people of different regions.
Mr. Rajagopal opined that it was not correct on the part of the bar associations that were fighting for the Bench to boycott judicial work, sit on hunger strikes and call for a bandh. Such steps would only put the litigants to hardship and increase the pendency of cases.
Moreover, the right time for launching an agitation had not come as yet. If the agitation was continued now it could result in loss of momentum when the need arises. It would be better if the advocates continued to demand the Bench but also simultaneously attended to judicial work, the MP said.
On the demand made by the TRS for the installation of a statue of adivasi leader Komaram Bheem by the State government, Mr. Rajagopal advised the TRS leaders to take the initiative of installing the statues across the state and then demand the same by the government. He asserted that Komaram Bheem did not belong to any one region of Andhra Pradesh. As a fighter for the rights of tribals, he was an inspiration to every person.
The MP also welcomed the “historic” recommendation made by the National Advisory Council for taking steps to ensure food security to 75 per cent of the people in the country.
