A 38-year-old RTC conductor was killed and her body burnt allegedly by her husband in an incident reported under the Lalapet police station limits here on Tuesday.

Mandapati Kalyani was allegedly strangled and her body burnt by Venkata Raghavaiah on Sunday night, the Lalapet police said.

Raghavaiah married Kalyani 15 years back but left her and began living with another woman.

After her death in 2010, he came back to live with Kalyani. They had two children.

Police said he suspected her character after she began working as an RTC conductor in 2010. On Sunday, the couple had a heated argument and Raghavaiah allegedly hit her with a boulder.

Later, he allegedly strangled her and dumped her body into a water sump.

Around midnight, he called up the son of his second wife and with his assistance, allegedly burnt the body at Bonthapadu village.

The police, who registered a missing case based on a complaint by the victim’s sister, smelt the rat when they got foul smell from the water sump. After questioning, Raghavaiah reportedly admitted that he killed his wife.
