The municipality authorities on Sunday announced new guidelines to prevent loitering of cattle on the town roads.
Under the aegis of Excise and B.C. Welfare minister Kollu Ravindra, the civic body officials and police invited at least 100 dairy farmers from Machilipatnam and Bandarkota village for talks over controlling the cattle menace on the roads, causing traffic snarls.
Tension prevailed for sometime when farmers were divided in their opinions over the issue. However, police brought the situation under control. Machilipatnam Municipal Commissioner A.V.S.N. Maruthi Diwakar accompanied by Municipal Chairperson M. Bhaba Prasad declared a set of guidelines which would come into force with immediate effect.
“We will capture the buffaloes and cows found on the road and will send the animals to the Cattle Conservation Organisations,” proposed Mr. Diwakar. Citing numerous road accidents due to presence of cattle, especially in the nights, traffic police and civic authorities appealed to the cattle owners not to let the animals free on the roads.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ravindra and police are chalking out plans to find an amicable solution to avoid damage of agricultural fields due to cattle in and around Machilipatnam.
