All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) conducted a photo exhibition as a precursor to its 13 State-level conference to be held in the city from September 26 to 29, at Lenin Centre here on Sunday.
On the occasion, AIDWA senior leader Putumbaka Bharati said the women were marching ahead in all spheres of life. The respective governments, however, were ignoring the rights of women, their development and issues concerning them. The governments were responsible for attacks on women. Thirty-three percent reservations for women in legislatures remained on paper though the demand had been continuing for many decades, she said.
Dr. Velanki Sridevi, who participated as chief guest, said that the women were suffering from malnutrition and anaemia. The poor were worst suffers. The women were forced to be bread earners in the family as the men were addicted to liquor. They were unable to make both ends meet due to rising prices of essential commodities.
