Govt. to revamp PCB

The State government is contemplating restructuring and strengthening the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB). As a step in that direction, the government has decided to abolish the Task Forces of the PCB.

Chief Secretary IYR Krishna Rao held a review meeting with the PCB officials here on Monday. On the occasion, he stressed on the need for a scientific study in this regard. The Task Forces were not really serving the purpose. So, it was decided to abolish the Task Forces and replace them with Inspections from Zonal Offices and Head Office on a rotation basis, he said.

Asking the PCB officials to lay emphasis on municipal waste treatment and landfill system at municipalities, he wanted them to ensure the municipalities comply with the statutory provisions. PCB Member Secretary B.S.S. Prasad and others were present.
