The government is speeding up the bifurcation process of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), and a draft notification on sharing of assets and manpower has been prepared, and it will be presented at the board meeting to be held shortly.

Once the draft notification is approved by the corporation, it will be forwarded to the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana State through an expert committee. After their approval, it will be sent to the Centre for issuing orders to bifurcate the corporation, said A. Venkateswara Rao, Executive Director (Administration), APSRTC, here on Friday.

There are close to 1.25 lakh employees in the corporation, and except for the 2,500 State cadre officers, district-wise distribution of employees has almost been completed, he added.

Accounts on expenditure and revenue have already been separated. In the united State, the accumulated loss of the corporation is nearly Rs. 3,000 crore. Depot-wise profit and loss accounts are being prepared, and officials are discussing modalities on proportionate sharing of losses. The remaining issues will be sorted out by a team of six executive directors, representing the two States, he said.

On the proposed location of ‘Bus Bhavan’ in Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Rao said plans were on to construct the building close to the secretariat. “We are in the process of identifying a suitable location in Vijayawada, Guntur and Gannavaram, but it will all depend on the location of the secretariat,” Mr. Rao added.
