The government under its initiative to intensity measures under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act constituted the Andhra Pradesh State Employment Guarantee Council with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu as its Chief.

The Council will have 17 Ministers and Secretaries along with a team of public representatives and leaders of trade unions.

During a meeting of the “A.P. State Employment Guarantee Council” here on Tuesday, the Chief Minister suggested making Janmabhoomi village committees, self-help groups and Smart Andhra Pradesh partners in the NREGA for ensuring transparency.

Top priority should be accorded to the Neeru-Chettu, followed by construction of cement roads and individual toilets, Mr. Naidu said. To keep a track on the progress of various works, he suggested preparing a blueprint and updating the details under phased manner. “The details should be made available to people for accessing the progress of works in respective panchayats,” said Mr. Naidu.

Towards this, stress was laid on the need to overhaul the selection of candidates under NREGA by reviewing MET and Senior MET cadres every six months. He also directed the officials to review the progress of employees and update the details periodically. Geo tagging, finger prints and online attendance system will eliminate middlemen and bring in transparency, he added.

Authorities informed that Andhra Pradesh was emerging as a model State by effectively integrating technology and innovation to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment scheme. To make this more robust, the Chief Minister suggested setting up of IVRS services, which aids in collecting feedback from the beneficiaries, said a press release.

With the CM as chief, the council will have Ministers, Secretaries and a team of public representatives and trade union leaders as members
