Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan on Friday asked the Home Department to appoint a Special Public Prosecutor and inquire into the gangrape case of a 41-year-old woman who was allegedly murdered in Vijayawada on March 15.
The relatives and family members of the victim met the Governor at Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad today. The Governor also directed the police to arrest the culprits immediately and send them to the fast track court.
MLA meets CP At Vijayawada, Mylavaram MLA and TDP district president Devineni Umamaheswara Rao met Commissioner of Police B. Srinivasulu, urging him to take immediate action against the culprits. Alleging gross negligence by the police, the MLA said the police did not follow the standard procedures of investigation.
He pointed out that according to a version that was making rounds, the woman was murdered and the body was kept in the neighbouring flat for a full day and the police was unable to detect the body. “Why did the police not search the entire apartment and press for sniffer dogs. The investigating authorities appear to have probed only the angle of elopement, which was unprofessional,” he said.
The body of the victim was found floating in an irrigational canal, near Vaikuntapuram village, Penamaluru Mandal on Monday night, after she had gone missing from her residence at Yanamalakuduru from March 15.
It is learnt that a taxi driver, who was living in the same apartment by name Subhani alleged killed her for gains along with five other accomplices. He kept the body in his room in the adjacent flat for a day and later dumped it in the canal. He also took away gold jewellery, silk saris, cell phone and other valuables, to give an elopement angle and mislead police.
Talking to The Hindu the Commissioner of Police said a special team was probing the case and all details will be out in a day or two.
