As many as 25 teams of revenue officials have been constituted to survey the land to be acquired for the proposed deep sea port and other industries in Machilipatnam and Pedana mandals of Krishna District.

The State Government plans to acquire above 30,000 acres of land for the port and for various industries in the petrochemical, oil refinery and food processing sectors.

Of this, a notification for acquisition of 14,500 acres of private land was issued on August 30. The acquisition is under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013.

The survey is to be completed by the end of September. Grievances and objections pertaining to the recruitment and rehabilitation package would be accepted on or before October 30 as per the guidelines laid down in the 2013 law.

The 14,500 acres of private land for which the acquisition notification has been issued fall in 25 villages in Machilipatnam and Pedana mandals.

“The land acquisition notification has been issued as per the Resettlement Registry and Adangal Registry. The survey will document the existing houses and other structures and ownership of the land to be acquired,” Krishna District revenue officer P. Saibabu said.

Revenue officials are also engaged in a survey of an additional 16,000 acres of government land needed for the port and other industries. “A special survey to identify families which are in occupation of government land will also be taken up and a rehabilitation package will be given to them,” said Mr. Saibabu.
