Government flayed for not buying damaged cotton

November 23, 2012 01:46 pm | Updated 01:46 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The YSR Congress Party found fault with the Government for not buying damaged cotton by Nilam cyclone through the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) and demanded it extend relief to the farmers.

Party district convenor Samineni Udaya Bhanu addressing a press conference here on Thursday said it was unfortunate that the Government was not ordering the CCI to go to the rescue of cotton farmers who were in dire straits.

Launching an attack on the Congress and the Telugu Desam parties Mr. Bhanu demanded that the letter written about the situation in the State by Union Minister Kishore Chandra Dev be made public.

The Congress party had not given any explanation or justification to Mr. Chandra Dev’s statements in which he called PCC President Botsa Satyanaryana, a mafia don and Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy an incompetent person, Mr. Bhanu said.

He alleged that the ACB, CBI and other investigation agencies were being used as pawns to cover up the corruption and scams of the Congress leaders.

He said that it was most unfortunate that no mention was made of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy at the inauguration of Hundri-Niva Project.

Mr. Bhanu said the TDP president had lost his sanity and the statements he was making on his padayatra clearly indicated it.

By the time Mr. Naidu walked 800 km in his padayatra five TDP MLAs, and eight former MLAs and important leaders left the party, Mr. Bhanu pointed out.

One important leader would leave the party after every 50 km, he quipped.
