July 25, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:07 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

With the Krishna Pushkaram approaching fast, Principal Secretary (Energy) Ajay Jain has instructed officials of AP-Transco and AP-Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (AP-SPDCL) to adopt technologies from advanced countries for the establishment of a centralised control and monitoring system (CCMS) for foolproof power supply during the 12-day river festival.

The CCMS is to come up with IT-enabled Google Tagged Controls for remote switching of street lights, measuring consumption and monitoring of faults and disseminating alerts thereof instantly. In a review meeting on the subject, Mr. Jain said the power supply position at the Pushkar ghats and on the streets should be monitored on a real-time basis using the latest technology to take corrective action without inordinate delay. Lighting at the ghats is to be watched and additional lights installed at spots of heavy crowds.

Task force being set up

A task force is being set up to continuously monitor the power supply and take up retrofitting of ordinary street lights with energy-efficient LED street lights for enhanced illumination levels across the Krishna, Guntur and Kurnool districts. The entire infrastructure has to be put in place by the end of July 31. Top officials of the Energy and Municipal Administration Departments and Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. have been deployed to take necessary action.

According to SDPCL Chairman and Managing Director H.Y. Dora, the southern discom is spending around Rs.85 crore on refurbishment of power distribution infrastructure at 159 Pushkar ghats in three districts.
