The government is keen on promoting garment industry in Krishna District as it provides employment opportunities to locals, Vijayawada Central MLA Bonda Uma Maheswara Rao said here on Wednesday.

Inaugurating a retail outlet of RR Sportswear in the city, the legislator said Andhra Pradesh would encourage entrepreneurs to compete with international brands.

“This unit was formed in 1991, and with hard work and innovative business practices, RR Sportswear has carved a niche for its itself in the garment industry in 23 years,” he said.

RR Sportswear chairman and founder Radha Rani requested the government to make the paper work easy for clearance of proposals for the benefit of entrepreneurs. “There is scope for more hosiery units coming up in the district which will empower more women,” she added.
