Hundreds of youngsters participated in the 10K Cyclothon organised jointly by the LVR & Sons Club and Reading Room, Guntur Urban Police and the Guntur Municipal Corporation on Sunday and passed on a message loud and clear on the advantages of using cycles. The event, meant to promote cycling, saw several school and college children taking part with enthusiasm.
Saving environment, gaining good health and easing traffic are the themes of the event.
Additional Superintendent of Police B. Bhaskara Rao, Club president Rayapati Srinivas and secretary K. Nageswara Rao along with Minister for Social Welfare Ravela Kishore Babu, Guntur Municipal Commissioner Naga Lakshmi and several MLAs flagged off the event.
The mega event started from the club premises and waded through the Lodge Centre, Sankar Vilas, Ramesh Hospital, Collector’s Office Road, Swami Theatre and Vidya Nagar at Koritapadu. Minister for Agriculture Prathipati Pulla Rao, who attended the event as chief guest, picked the winners of the lucky dip and gave away the prizes.
The event also saw a grand gala cultural programme churned out by film actor Raj Tarun along with singer Pratyusha Sharma, mimicry artist Lohith and music director Shasi Preetham. Kuchipudi dance by Tina Chowdary was the highlight of the event and members of the ‘Sarigama’ musical troupe belted out many peppy film numbers.
