The Godavari continues to rise steadily at Bhadrachalam following heavy inflows into the river from its tributaries – the Pranahitha, the Sabari, and the Indravathi.
The water level in the river at the temple town hovered around 35 feet on Tuesday evening.
Two boats had already been positioned on the banks of the river near the bathing ghat as a safety precaution.
Inundation
Several remote villages in Velerupadu, Wajedu, and Chintoor mandals remained cut off from the rest of the district because of inundation of causeways and culverts by the swollen streams. Road link to nearly 20 villages in and around Cheekupalli village in Wajedu mandal was paralysed, as a low-level causeway was submerged by floodwaters.
Road connectivity to over 10 villages, including several tribal habitations in Velerupadu mandal, was snapped due to overflowing streams, sources said.
Meanwhile, the sectoral officers toured some of the flood-prone villages in the Bhadrachalam Agency to oversee the arrangements to deal with flood emergency.
Barring Palair reservoir in Kusumanchi mandal, the remaining reservoirs, including Kinnerasani and Taliperu in the district, were almost filled to the brim.
