Andhra Pradesh State Official Languages Committee Chairman Mandali Budha Prasad has asked officials to organise awareness programmes at village and mandal levels on World Telugu Conference (WTC), this time being held at Tirupati.

Speaking at a review meeting held in Vijayawada on Sunday, he said that 10 poets would attend the conference from each district and instructed the District Public Relations Officer (DPRO) to select the Telugu poets from Krishna district for the WTC.

He asked the officials to organise programmes explaining the importance of Telugu language and the proposed Conference.

Publicity should be made on the need for attending the conference through wall posters, banners, brochures, hoardings and by organising cultural shows by involving local artistes.

To encourage women, ‘rangoli’ competitions should be organised in villages and people were requested to enrol through e-Seva centres, said Mr. Budha Prasad.

Additional Joint Collector N. Ramesh said that awareness programmes were being held in rural areas on Telugu Conference, through rallies and cultural programmes.

District level committees would be constituted with the consent of District In-charge and the local Ministers, said Mr. Ramesh.

He asked the officials to bring pressure on private entrepreneurs and other organisations to have the sign boards in Telugu too to promote the language among people.

Mr. Ramesh told Mr. Prasad that in Krishna district various competitions in essay writing and debate were being organised in the schools for children and cultural events and competitions in drama skits, plays and street plays were organised to bring awareness on use of the language.

A meeting would be organised soon with district in-charge minister and other officials on district-wide mahasabha, he said.

Member of the Legislative Council Ilapuram Venkaiah DPRO K. Sada Rao was present.
