Chief national badminton coach Pullela Gopichand on Tuesday said that the country’s pride was salvaged by two girls and they in fact came to the rescue of the country by winning two medals – a silver and a bronze.

Stupendous feat

He said the stupendous feat by Sindhu and Sakshi Malik (wrestling) emphasised the importance of saving the girl child and offering them education and all facilities on a par with men and empowering them for bigger challenges.

He said that in the recent past the sports infrastructure in the country had witnessed a paradigm shift. “I am sure these feats will inspire our rulers to come out with better and effective policies to spruce up infrastructure across the country.”
