A giant kidney tumour weighing 2.5 kg was removed from a 45-year-old woman of Movva village after a surgery in Nagarjuna Hospital here.

A team of doctors headed by K Srilakshmi removed the tumour from M. Koteswaramma giving her a new lease of life under the NTR Vaidya Seva Scheme.

The tumour that was 20 cm long and 15 cm wide was five times the normal size. The tumour had started growing into the major blood vessels resulting in a blood clot in the renal vein. Surgical Oncologist Kaushik Hari removed the cancerous kidney.

The surgery to remove the cancerous kidney was difficult and delicate because it was very close to the aorta and inferior vena cava, Dr Hari said.

The patient has recovered and ready for discharge.
