The Vedika Function Hall near Benz Circle has transformed into a collage of couture. Speckled with the quiet charm of cool cottons, shimmer of the silks and glitter of the designer stuff, the place is attracting women in droves.
An exhibition cum-sale of garments under the banner of ‘Styles and Weaves’ unfolded on Tuesday here, is a big bait for the fair sex known for its weakness for rich traditional garments.
Overriding all other thoughts, mothers, with their college-going daughters in tow, are donning the role of a shopaholic to alter their wardrobe with style and comfort.
A walk around the auditorium dotted with 40-odd stalls put up by artisans from across the country makes it difficult to pick one specific pattern.
The rich Kanjeevarams, the elegant crepe silks, Dharmavarams, Uppadas, Pochampally silks, Narayanpet Gadwals, Banaras brocades, Jamdani and Jamawar are available in the choicest of colours, fabrics, prints, weaves, and embroideries.
Besides, kundan work saris, Gujarati designer blouses, 916 pure jewellery and silver articles are other attractions. Master designers from Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Rajasthan, Guarajat, Hyderabad, Mangalagiri, Chennai and Bengaluru have descended on the venue to showcase their exclusive works.
“We have timed the exhibition with the festival season to enable buyers pick the best stuff available in both traditional and modern segments,” said the event manager Manjulatha.
One look at the splendid collection and the hordes of insatiable buyers and it is easy to conclude that despite rapid advancement of technology, handloom woven fabrics will never go out of fashion. The exhibition is on till October 16 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
