Gannavaram, Nandigama sizzle at 47 degreee C

The Cyclone Warning Centre (CWC) at Visakhapatnam said Gannavaram and Nandigama recorded the highest temperature in the state of 47 degrees Celsius followed by Machilipatnam and Bapatla (46 degrees C) and Ongole (45). Kavali registered 44, Tirupati, Kurnool, Nellore and Kakinada each 42, Anantapur 41 and Tuni 40.In Srikakulam, the toll went up to 13 as six more deaths were reported by unofficial sources in the last few days. A 60-year woman Ravula Saraswati died of sunstroke on Friday afternoon in Itchapuram mandal. Her family took her to nearby government hospital where she was declared brought dead. A 45-year-old Kondapu Duryodhana collapsed and died on the spot in the Siripuram weekly shandy in Mandasa mandal despite getting first aid from locals. Another woman Sushila Mohapatra (33) of LN Peta, Vysyaraju Dalaya Raju (75) of Gumadam village of Laveru mandal, a toddy tapper T. Bhimarao (45), Karanam Annapurna (57) of Saradi village of Rajam mandal and Patnayuni Premavati (65) died due sunstroke.
