Noted businessman and Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) president Gaddam Subba Rao passed away here on Saturday. He is survived by two sons and two daughters. Subba Rao has been serving as president of VCCI since 1986 and acted as editor of Vijayawada Chamber, a Telugu fortnightly brought out by the Chamber. He was also director Andhra Pradesh State Warehousing Corporation and Managing Director of GSR Vanadurga Business Links (P) Ltd., and proprietor of GSR Vanadurga Filling Station at Gollapudi.

He was born in Bandimudi village in Prakasam district in 1940. He played key role in the construction of Mahatma Gandhi Wholesale Commercial Complex at Gollapudi and fought against draconian laws such as EC Act. He also served as chairman of Vijaya Krishna Super Bazar for 4 years and president of Rice Merchants' Association for about 13 years.

CPI city secretary K. Subba Raju, Andhra Chamber of Commerce president M. Murali Krishna and secretary Ch. Prasad and others expressed the deep condolences to bereaved family members.
