Rural Development Minister D.M Vara Prasada Rao has said future energy demands would be met by renewable energy sources and called for greater investment in these energies. Addressing a two-day workshop on, ‘Renewable Energy Sources and their interconnection with power grid', the Minister said country needs to tap alternative energy sources at a time when the conventional energy sources have been fast depleting.
The Minister spoke of the need to maintain the Oil Pool Account to keep the energy levels at a stable level. He also stressed the need to promote alternative energy by providing more subsidies.
Mr. Rao also released the brochure of a forthcoming seminar on ‘Image Processing', to be conducted by the University in the first week of December. Vice-Chancellor (Incharge) of Acharya Nagarjuna University K.V. Rao said the university would look to tap renewable energy solutions to reduce the mounting power bills. The incharge Vice-Chancellor said the university had been footing mounting monthly bills to the tune of Rs.18 lakh. Incharge Registrar G. Prasad and Principal of University College of Arts and Science P. Siddaiah spoke. Mr. Siddaiah said percentage of alternative energy in the total energy requirement was being scaled by 2020. General Manager, Solar Semi Conductors Limited, K.C. Kumar spoke on the advantages of solar energy.
