Funtimes Club to felicitate Sindhu

Badminton star P. V. Sindhu will be felicitated by Funtimes Club management on Friday honouring her for bagging the Padma Shri award and her string of superlative performances in the international tournaments.

The nine-day Air Costa 79th Senior National badminton championship got under way at Vijayawada Club and Funtimes Club.

Speaking at the inauguration of qualifying rounds for women at Funtimes Club, City East MLA Gadde Ram Mohan said that the city will witness great transformation in sports and said it was Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu who made Hyderabad sports hub with his visionary road map. Municipal Commissioner Veera Pandian said that Vijayawada had a long history of conducting several prime domestic badminton fixtures and home to top class shuttlers. He exhorted the players to exhibit their skills and enjoy the hospitality of the city.

Badminton Association of India joint secretary Ankamma Choudary, corporators Devineni Aparna, Jasti Sambasiva Rao, VMC sports committee chairman Chennupati Gandhi took part, The boys qualifying rounds were inaugurated at Vijayawada in which Guntur District joint Collector Cherukuri Sridhar took art as the chief guest. Vijayawada Club president V. Ramamurthy, secretary Dr. Venkata Ratnam and treasurer Guntur Rama Rao graced the function.
