Free Hepatitis B screening for hospital staff

Hepatitis B screening will be done free of charge for staff of hospitals at the M.G. Road branch (near Municipal Stadium) of the Ramesh Hospitals on the occasion of the World Hepatitis Day on Thursday. Paramedics, nursing and pharmacy staff are eligible for the screening from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

Ramesh Hospitals consulting Gastroenterologist I. Nalini Prasad said that as per the World Health Organisation (WHO) statistics 15 lakh people were dying because of the infection every year.

However, many suffering from the infection do not even know of it until it is very late. Only one in 20 could find out well in time that they were infected, he said.
