Four members of of a family allegedly committed suicide by consuming pills in the early hours of Thursday in Eluru rural limits. The incident came to light when the head of the family returned from a tour.

The deceased include Addegoduru Nagapadmavati, 52, her daughter Santosh Roopa, 37, and Roopa’s children, Sai Sidhartha, 9, and Sairam, 5.

According to Eluru Rural DSP G. Venkateswara Rao, the incident took place in Beedi Colony where Nagapadmavati was living with her father Kesavarapu Ramanarao. Her daughter, Roopa, was living in Raigarh in Chhattisgarh. In November 2016, Roopa’s husband died in a car accident near Palakonda in Srikakulam district, in which she escaped unhurt. However, she reportedly did not inform her family members about the death of her husband till last month.

She was allegedly depressed after the incident and came to Eluru along with her two sons. She reportedly told Mr. Ramanarao that she wanted to go back to Raigarh where her aunt also lives. A week ago, Mr. Ramanarao went to Raigarh to find a flat on rent for Roopa and her children. When he returned on Thursday, he did not get any response from inside and sought the help of neighbours to open the door. When he went inside he reportedly found the bodies.
