In a tragic incident, four members of a family caught in a debt trap, committed suicide near the Macherla railway station on Sunday.
The bodies of the four, including three women, were found at the railway yard, a few metres away from the railway station. The police found cans of pesticide and a few glasses near the bodies.
Circle Inspector of Macherla T. Murali Krishna said victims were identified as Munnangi Venkateswara Reddy (55), his wife Lakshmi (50), his mother-in-law Alla Sarojini (70) and his daughter Kolli Lakshmi (32).
The family hailed from Vallabhapuram in Kollipara mandal of Tenali revenue division.
The police said that they had boarded the Macherla-bound passenger train in Guntur on Saturday.
They reached Macherla around Saturday night.
They could have consumed the pesticide laced with a soft drink and ended their lives.
According to the police, Reddy was an agriculture labourer, who for some years had been facing financial problems.
