Former Andhra Ranji captain B. Ramprasad (75) passed away at Hyderabad on Wednesday after a brief illness.

He, as a right hand opening batsman and wicket keeper, represented Andhra in Ranji in 59 matches and scored 2,240 runs at an average of 20.18 with two centuries.

Mr. Ram Prasad holds a record for Andhra of continuously playing Ranji for 17 seasons. He played against stalwarts like M.L. Jaisimha, Nawab of Pataudi, E.A.S. Prasanna, B.S. Chandrasekhar, S. Venkatraghavan, A.G. Milkha Singh, and Balan Pandit.

Born at Nellore in 1940, he was promoted by Venkatagiri Samsthanam and Sree Rama Cricket Club, Eluru. A retired employee of State Bank of India, he played most of his domestic cricket at Chennai and was a star performer in Tamil Nadu Cricket Association’s league tournaments and after retirement he settled down at Hyderabad. He is survived by wife and two daughters.

ACA president D.V.V.S. Somayajulu said in the demise of Ramprasad ACA lost one of its top batsmen of yesteryear.

“B. Ramprasad was a stylish batsman and his determination to stay at the wicket in crucial situations was an object lesson to many cricketers,” said secretary G. Gangaraju.
