Have you come across a diamond studded pen, which costs more than a lakh or a diamond studded ‘Vaddanam’ (waist belt), which is offered for Rs. 50 lakh? If you wish to witness these ornaments and articles under one roof, then visit the India Jewellers Fair, which commenced at Seshasai Kalyana Mandapam here on Friday.
But what makes the pen to cost more than a lakh. Well, the pen comes with an 18 carat gold nib and is studded with four diamonds. Made of kundan and decked up with Meenakari art, the pen is an antique piece and one has to dip the nib in the inkpot to write. It is not like the conventional fountain pen, explains Neeraj Agarwal of Suraj Bhan Jewellers, which is offering the pen at the fair.
“Only experienced craftsmen can make such pens and it takes about three months to make one piece,” says Mr. Agarwal.
Then there are stalls which offer eye-catching and well crafted diamond studded ‘Vaddanams’. The PMJ Jewels stall offers a ‘Vaddanam’, which comes with 52 carats of diamonds and 400 grams of 18 carat gold. It costs nearly Rs. 50 lakh, says Prateek Jain, Associate Manager of PMJ Jewels.
It is not just jewellery and ornaments, there are a few art pieces made of porcelain and are embellished with gold-plating.
The 24-carat Kamadhenu idol and the silver and gold-plated idols of elephants at the Elite Treasure Trove stall are worth a visit at the fair. The three-day fair features 20 jewellers from Chennai, Kolkata, Rajasthan, Hyderabad and New Delhi displaying wide range of jewellery, organisers said.
