The present Andhra Pradesh Olympic Association, which is registered as per the Societies Act, is very much appropriate and the general body meeting to be held on April 19 at Hyderabad will officially pave the way for the formation of two States associations — Andhra Pradesh and Telangana — according to former MP and president of the association Lagadapati Rajagopal.

Speaking at a press conference here on Sunday, he said that the meeting would discuss the sharing of assets, liabilities and premises of the Olympic Bhavan at Lal Bahadhur Stadium.

“We will share the assets and liabilities equally between the two new associations. Both the associations will share the Olympic Bhavan for administrative purpose,” he added.

Mr. Rajagopal said that the former High Court judge Naushad Ali will be the returning officer of the elections.

Replying to the question about the new Andhra Pradesh Olympic Association, which is holding its general body meeting under the stewardship of veteran sports administrator Mr. Kodandaramaiah at Tirupati on April 4, Mr. Rajagopal said he had nothing to comment. “I do not wish to make any comment on Tirupati meeting,” he said.

He said the claim by newly- floated unit that the APOA ceased to exist after the bifurcation would not hold good as establishments like the APSRTC and the APCOB, registered under the Societies Act, were still functioning as one unit in the divided Andhra Pradesh.

He also said the existing association was just following the directive of the Andhra Pradesh High Court which has asked to maintain the status quo after bifurcation.

He said the AP High Court has entrusted the job of preparing the voters and also the conduction of the general body meeting on president (Mr. Rajagopal) and secretary (Jagadeeswar Yadav).

Mr. J.C. Pavan Reddy, who is contesting for the post of president and others, attended the meeting.
