The North Zone police have arrested five persons for drag racing on roads and creating panic in the city. The accused attacked the police when they tried to track them, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP-Law and Order) G. Pala Raju.
The DCP told reporters on Tuesday that Shaik Rasool, Salauddin Salar, Shaik Adil, Shaik Azharuddin and Shaik Adhil, all residents of the city, were seen racing their bikes across roads on July 5 at 1 a.m.
On being alerted through ‘Dial 100’, a police team rushed towards the BRTS Road and the accused managed to escape.
When the police tried to chase them, one of the accused stoned a home guard and sped away.
The Satyanarayanapuram police registered a case, identified the accused and arrested them. The accused were doing some private work, the DCP said.
‘Racers appointed photographer’
The bike racers even appointed a photographer to take snaps while performing feats on the two-wheelers. They shared the photographs with their friends and the mobile phones were seized from them, said North Zone Assistant Commissioner of Police K. Sravani.
Satyanarayanapuram Circle Inspector M. Satyanarayana and other officers were present at the press conference.
