Five patients with dengue have been admitted to different hospitals in the city for treatment. Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Chief Medical Officer M. Satyanarayana Raju said here on Thursday that none of them, however, belong to the city and were from “surrounding areas”. The number of patients with malaria being treated in hospitals is 10, but seven are residents of the city and remaining three are from surrounding areas.
District Collector Buddha Prakash Jyothi warned corporate and private hospitals against frightening patients who come to them with fevers saying they were suffering from dengue fever. Addressing a press conference in Madicherla village in Bapulapadu mandal, the Collector said hospital authorities should conduct the required tests first and then tell the patients what they were suffering from.
They must establish beyond doubt the disease they were having, he added.
He said that stringent action would be taken against hospitals and doctors who were found frightening patients.
The Collector said that he had learnt from officials that the people in Madicherla village were suffering from fevers and he had come to visit them.
The Collector said that he had given orders to the DM&HO and established a health camp in the village. In all 37 fever cases were recorded in the village.
The main reason for the spread of the fevers was leakages in the old drinking water pipelines.
Steps would be taken to plug the leaks immediately, he said.
The VMC CMO said that steps should be taken to ensure that there were no puddles or collections of rainwater that were breeding grounds for mosquitoes..
He urged all to keep the surroundings of their homes clean and to drink boiled water after cooling it.
