Fire that broke out from a mysterious source in a dump yard nearly 10 days ago is still on the rage.
Even as it is on the verge of burning the entire garbage dumped in the yard at Ajith Singh Nagar, an army of firemen from various fire stations in the city and district are striving to douse it day and night.
At present, three fire tenders, including two from the Autonagar fire station, are placed at the dump yard. More than 15 firemen are continuously trying to put out the fire. Water is being sourced from an overhead tank nearby. “As there is a lot of plastic in the garbage, a lot of heat is generated. Adding to that is the billowing smoke that is completely blocking the sight of flames,” a fireman told The Hindu .
“We have been here for more than 10 days. Initially, five fire tenders have been deployed. Two of them have been sent back after fire abated a bit. In case of emergency, we are rushing to the spot from here itself,” he added.
