Summer holidays to schools and colleges have come as a boon to city orchestras. Film songs are being heard once again on the Government college premises.
Film song-based programmes had been banned for quite some time at Lalia Gokaraju Gangaraju auditorium on the Government Music College grounds as they generated too much of noise. Residents near the college lodged complaints against the orchestras for causing discomfort to the students doing their homework.
Much to the discomfiture of the organisers, the police disturbed the programmes by asking sound operators to reduce the volume.
“The college authorities banned the staging of film-based songs. Only classical programmes highlighting dance and traditional music were given permission and film orchestras were asked to look somewhere else,” says Mohammad Khaja of Mayur Orchestra, a musical outfit.
However, with the holidays setting in the college authorities have relaxed their stand and are now allowing film-based programmes until June end.
Last Sunday, the Swarabharathi Cultural Association made its first re-entry and on Wednesday (May 3) legendary playback singer P. Suseela will croon at the felicitation organised by three cultural outfits - Somanadha Cultural Arts, Desika Cultural Arts and Swaramadhuri Cultural Association. City-based singers will also sing a good number of Ghantasala and Suseela numbers for the audience.
