Stories based on combination formula are here to stay, and cinema production has become a gamble, says actor Tanikella Bharani. He was in the city to attend a few programmes including a book release. Speaking to The Hindu shared his experiences in life and cine industry.
Reacting to the criticism that combination formula dominated story in present day films, he said: “It’s true that films are made on mere calculations such as fight and item song. If the audience is lucky enough, there will be some story. No one knows which film will be a hit or flop. Film making is a gamble.”
He said punch dialogues were order of the day. “It is a new trend, and it is here to stay. Unfortunately, if you cannot write punch dialogues, you are not treated as a dialogue writer,” he said.
On his ambitions and dreams, he said he had fulfilled all his three dreams including a good library, one-acre agriculture land and a good bathroom. “In my childhood, we had only one toilet. It was my dream then to have a good bathroom where you can have undisturbed bath,” he said.
Has the actor dominated the writer in him? “It is not question of dominating. The people (actors) on silver screen get more recognition than people behind screens. Relangi was more popular than K.V. Reddy who directed magnum opus Mayabazaar,” he said.
As regards his roles, Bharani likes the villain ‘Matrodevobhava’. “The impact was so much that a woman from U.S. told me that she wanted to kill me.”
When can people expect his autobiography? “Only title, nalupu, telupu koncham colour, is written. Don’t know when it will be completed. One can expect 99 per cent truth and facts. But, I will not mention any names that hurt someone,” he said.
On Mithunam, he said the success of Mithunam film was an unforgettable twist in his life.
