A shimmering red wave inundated the road in front of Sri Sivarama Kshetram (Ramakoti) in Gandhinagar area, the venue where hundreds of devotees, who are on Bhavani Deeksha, walked in a procession to reach Kanaka Durga temple atop Indrakeeladri Hill, on Friday.
It was sundown and flames of the earthern diyas carried by the faithful twinkled, showing the path to the participants of the Kalasa Jyothi yatra .
Following Vedic rituals, devotees pulled the silver chariot of Sri Durga Malleswara Swamivarla Devasthanam amid chants of Jai Bhavani . The deities were then offered a traditional harathi .
Members of folk troupes attired as Kalika Devi and Goddess Kanaka Durga were cynosure of all eyes. Women artists performed kolatam to religious numbers while men played dappus to match the rhythm.
Overcome by a sense of spirituality, Bhavani devotees, with their family members in tow, walked in a state of trance, reciting hymns. The procession passed through several lanes and bylanes before reaching the foot of the hill.
Vijayawada Central MLA Bonda Uma Maheswara Rao, temple EO Narsing Rao and other temple officials and staff participated in the yatra.
