While making no changes in the existing medical college fee for MBBS seats under the convenor quota (merit), the State government on Monday announced steep hike in tuition fee for medical seats falling under management quota in private (non-minority) and minority medical colleges.
Accordingly, the annual fee for MBBS seats under management quota in private medical college has been increased from Rs. 5.5 lakh to Rs. 9 lakh and fee for NRI quota medical seats has been enhanced from Rs. Rs. 5.5 lakh to Rs. 11 lakh. In minority medical colleges, the tuition fee for management quota seats has been increased from Rs. 6 lakh to Rs. 9 lakh, while for NRI quota, the tuition fee has been increased from Rs. 6 lakh to Rs. 12 lakh.
Health officials, however, made it clear that the tuition fee enhancement is only for management quota, which amount to about 40 per cent of the medical seats in minority and non-minority private medical colleges in the State. The tuition fee for 50 per cent of the medical seats in private non-minority and minority medical colleges will continue to remain Rs. 60,000 per annum, while another 10 per cent of medical seats, which are EAMCET-based management quota medical seats, will continue to remain at Rs. 2,40,000.
